Rooted in Experience.
Driven by the Future.
Lɛ Wi Lan (LWL) was established in 2025. It is governed by a Board of Directors and led by an experienced Executive Director and leadership team, many of whom bring direct experience from senior roles within Sierra Leone's education system and government ministries.
The Leh Wi Lan Project, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Mott MacDonald and Cambridge Education, worked over ten years to support improvements in teaching, school leadership and learning outcomes across the country.
As that programme approached its conclusion, the case for continuing its work through a Sierra Leonean-led institution became clear. Rather than allow a decade of accumulated expertise and institutional knowledge to disperse, the decision was taken to establish a new, independent organisation that could carry this work forward under national leadership.
"LWL’s founding reflects a shift towards durable, nationally owned institutions capable of sustaining reform long after a single funding source has ended."
Building on its origins as a major donor-funded programme, LWL has become an independent, locally led organisation that brings national expertise, evidence, and technical assistance to strengthen the education system.
